A community that meets and grows together
Clarkston is a remarkable place where people from many countries and cultures live side by side.
ENCOUNTER: CLARKSTON connects local residents, churches, volunteers, and partner organizations to support learning for children and youth, families settling in, adults’ jobs and careers, and lasting relationships.
We aim for relationship-centered ministry — remembering names, meeting again, and continuing to connect people to the help they need — rather than one-time service.
This ministry is rooted in Christian faith, but it is open to everyone regardless of race, nationality, language, or religion. Bible study, prayer, and church participation are offered only as options, to those who want them.
New opportunities, made with neighbors close by
Our vision is to help the children, youth, and families of Clarkston experience that they are not alone.
Some people need someone to practice English with.
Some need a teacher to work through math problems together.
Some need advice about college or a career.
And some need a chance to learn an instrument, study the Bible, or visit a nearby church.
ENCOUNTER: CLARKSTON listens for these needs and connects people with the right people, programs, and local resources.
What we hold to
Welcome
We warmly welcome everyone.
Dignity
We never portray anyone as a pitiable object of charity. We respect each person’s story, choices, culture, and faith.
Relationship
We value lasting relationships — remembering names and meeting again — over one-time help.
Learning
We build a community where those who teach and those who learn grow together.
Service
We believe even small help and warm attention can be a great strength in someone’s life.
Faith
We never impose our faith; we show it through love and service.
Safety
We take special care for the safety of children and youth, guardian consent, and privacy.
Follow-Through
We don’t just collect requests. As much as we can, we connect people with a coordinator and a program, and we follow up.
